Kellie lives with her Grandfather. Her mother left when Kellie was only two years old, which, she tells us, "is devastating for a child, because you wonder, 'Why doesn't your mother want anything to do with you?" Kellie's father has been in-and-out of prison pretty much her whole life. She says about her father, "He's a drug user." During her interview, Kellie begins weeping as she recounts the sorrow of growing up with a locked-up pop. Kellie is from Stanly County, Albemarle, North Carolina. In 2004 she won the distinguished honor of being Miss Stanly County. Kellie Pickler strolled into the Greensboro audition (televised January, 24, 2006) with the number 61615 fastened onto the front of her purple shirt. She appears casual in jeans, though, also somewhat nervous. She tells the judges that she's going to sing Kelly Clarkson's "Since You Been Gone," and recognizes that she's "got some big shoes to fill.
